Grand Reopening! The Bern Report 3.0

How does the old saying go “out of the ashes rises the Phoenix” or something like that? Well that may be stretching things just a little bit but The Bern Report has decided to become active again.

Why we took a break:

After the soul-crushing result of the 2016 Democratic primary we just didn’t really feel like keeping the site active. Not gonna go deep into that subject because it’s water under the bridge at this point. We have work to do going forward. Of course we’d put in close to a year of hard work with many sleepless nights fueled by copious amounts of coffee and had built up a readership of millions of views per month and at one point TBR was among the top 20K most popular websites in the country, so the decision wasn’t easy. Ultimately we felt it was the right one. Some of us also needed to regroup and refocus on personal and/or business issues for a while but I’d be lying if I said I haven’t been itching to get back into this. Now seems like a great time to get going on it again.

Of course we don’t have to tell you what has happened in this country since we were consistently creating content. Among any number of other things, we have battled Muslim bans, Net Neutrality, the Great Windmill Cancer Scare of 2019 and fraudulent Tax Bills that seek to further widen the wealth gap and throw millions of people off of healthcare. We watch as more and more of our cities and towns are full of our brothers and sisters that can no longer afford to keep a roof over their heads. Almost everywhere we look there is work that needs to be done. And of course Bernie Sanders is running again, this time against not only the establishment and all that goes with that but the largest field of candidates in the history of Democratic primaries.

Our mission:

How can The Bern Report have at least some impact? It’s a question we asked ourselves and decided that there is space on the internet for a website that is interested in providing well researched articles and level headed op-ed pieces from progressives that want to see a better life for people all over this planet. And we’ll be talking a lot about Bernie and the issues he supports.

In the coming days and weeks we’ll be adding even more writers to our team, so if you or someone you know is interested in taking this journey with us, email us at thebernreport@gmail.com and tell us a little bit about yourself.

Many of our longtime readers and social media followers know that The Bern Report was 100% self-funded, not taking a penny in advertising money. Although we had many lucrative advertising offers, we did not generate revenue in any way, shape or form and that was intentional. At the time there were some other Bernie news sites in existence that were loaded with ads or selling unauthorized merch, any way they could make a buck really. We wanted to stand out from that crowd and make it about Bernie’s campaign and that’s we did. The truth of the matter though, is that we’ll need to raise a little bit of money this time to do what we want to with this website. While volunteer writers are always welcome, in our experience the best way to keep a steady stream of content and to keep the team happy is to offer at least some compensation.  In addition to that, although we are set for now with web hosting and site development costs, we’ll probably need to move to a dedicated server in the near future to handle the traffic. It’s not terribly expensive but it’s a vital part in keeping the site online during the times of heavy traffic. So we might be doing short term fundraisers at times asking for help, as well as an ongoing Patreon campaign. When our monthly traffic was in the millions we turned down many very lucrative offers for advertising and our goal is to do it that way again. If you’d like to contribute financially in some way other than Patreon, send us an email at thebernreport@gmail.com and we’ll give you some other options.

Finally, we REALLY want you involved. If there is a progressive candidate that is local to your area, we want to know about them. Is there an environmental or hot political issue in your home town that not enough people are talking about? Tell us about it. We’d love to hear your suggestions about what you want to see more of on this website. Email suggestions to: thebernreport@gmail.com.

Also make sure you have signed up for The Bern Report Newsletter. Do that HERE. (we absolutely promise not to spam you, or sell your email address ever)

Lastly, thank you for the amazing support and let’s work as hard as we can to make this planet the best place we can, for as many people as we can and of course, let’s work as hard as we can to get Senator Bernie Sanders elected!
