The New York Transport Workers Union today announced their endorsement for Bernie Sanders for President.
Said Sanders, “It is too late for the same old, same old establishment politics,” Sanders says. “We’ve got to stand together, take on the big money interests and make it clear that our government works for all of us — not just the 1%.”
“Brothers and sisters, there is no doubt that America needs a jolt, New York needs a jolt, working families need a jolt, and business as usual politics are not going to give us the jolt that we need,” said New York transit workers’ union president John Samuelsen in his endorsement of Bernie Sanders.
Sanders also picked up the endorsement from Oregon Senator Jeff Merkley. Merkley becomes just the first U.S. Senator to publicly throw his support behind Bernie. In an op-ed for the NY Times Merkley states, “After considering the biggest challenges facing our nation and the future I want for my children and our country, I have decided to become the first member of the Senate to support my colleague Bernie Sanders for President.”
