Converting Sanders’ Massive Online Support into Boots on the Ground Warriors
Now that Bernie Sanders has a massive lead, many people, including the editor at magazine have decided that while the online support is super critical, it is also time to start shifting some of the energy into some other areas. That said and let’s be clear about this, it’s also important that we keep the heat on in regards to social media. To use a sports analogy real quick: We see sports teams that build a big lead and then get complacent and stop doing the things that got them there in the first place. They let their guard down, so to speak, and let the opponent back in the game. So we merely suggest keep doing what has been working but at the same time, a strengthening of the base if you will.

Many potential voters have no clue what it actually takes to get someone into the White House, hell I barely do. Voters are sometimes astounded to learn that there is a system in place that doesn’t just count only the popular vote. We hear things like” How could he not win if he’s the most popular?”. Even though the political process isn’t, the answer to that question is fairly simply – the game has been rigged to give power to the people that understand it best, the people that know how to manipulate it. But there are some things that we can do to play the game with them and in fact beat them at their own game.

The best way to go about this mission of getting Bernie elected is to start thinking smaller actually, let me explain. By smaller I mean we need to focus on not so much as the country as a whole but we need to break this incredible online support down into States and then into counties, regions and legislative districts. Get to know who the movers and shakers in your area are. If you are part of the crowd that has no idea where the the local Democratics meet, it’s time you learned. With Bernie leading in the polls, it’s imperative that we show up at these places and get involved. We need to make our voices heard. Think of it like this though also, it’s a chance to get together with other Bernie supporters and that’s always a good time.

Don’t forget that if your state doesn’t have open primaries, you may be unable to vote for Bernie Sanders unless you are registered as a Democrat. Make sure you are registered to vote. Find out how HERE
Another key element is that Bernie has very little support from inside the Democratic party in terms of elected officials. I myself find it appalling that our representatives do not follow what their constituents want. Honestly I don’t care how they use their personal vote but it is unacceptable that they base their endorsements on their personal choices, rather than what the bulk of the people want. One of the greatest things that we can do as part of this massive army of Bernie Sanders supporters is to peacefully assemble and let them know who the people that they have been elected to serve want to see on the ticket. This could include online events, online petitions, telephone and email campaigns and protesting at public appearances. It also starts with doing some research into who is endorsing which candidates. There’s a wikipedia page for this click HERE but let me add that although wikipedia is usually fairly reliable, there is a potential for a few errors, so it’s always best to dig a little further before you go too far.
Another area of concern that will require some work is when labor leaders once again use their personal choice as to who to support. Just like we elected officials they can use their personal vote however they want but It is unacceptable that the majority of the rank and file workers’ are being drowned out by the leaders that support Hillary Clinton. One way of combating this is to utilize the same tactics that we listed for reaching Democratic politicians, with perhaps even more emphasis on online petitions. Don’t be afraid to reach out to local news stations and tell them your leaders aren’t endorsing the candidate that the majority wants.

Let’s pretend for a second that you haven’t a clue where or how to get started on the local level. Many of our brothers and sisters that support Bernie have never been involved in politics before at any level, while others have but have been out of the game for years or decades. A great place to go for that is the Bernie Sanders SubReddit. On the right side of that great online resource you will see a map that lists the pages for all 50 states. Simply click on your state and you’ll find some ideas on things you can do in your area. You can also search for local events HERE.

Another way to get involved is to check out your state, country or area on Facebook. Try out the search function HERE – Type in Bernie Sanders(followed by the area you want). Searching for “Bernie Sanders Nevada” will bring up several entries for you to check out. After you’ve done that break it down further into a smaller geographic area, like your county or popular regional nickname, like Puget Sound For Bernie Sanders. Connecting with like-minded people on a local level is one of the most important things we can do at this juncture. Then when we need to assemble the troops and turn our massive online power into powerful, and local, “Boots on the Ground” warriors it will be much easier.
Let the games begin!
